A winter trip to the sun, to an island that certainly lived up to its name: it was windy!
Things started off bad when, at four in the morning in Leeds, having got up to catch an early flight, we found Matthew lying in a pool of sick. A frantic bath sorted that, and the rest of the day was uneventful. Our villa was set amongst a moonscape of barren volcanic rock, and had solar hot water. This was great until the sun went in after the third day, never to be seen again! One by one, various members of the party were struck down by illness. Megan was the brightest of all, eating huge breakfasts only to insist on going out to lunch ("drive faster Daddy, I need lunch!").
In between various people being ill, we managed the usual volcanic site seeing and lots of lunches in cafes, so it wasn't all bad, but the weather and barren landscape did make for a less than memorable holiday. On the plus side, we still managed to have the obligatory holiday barbecue (extreme barbecuing!), and, thanks to John, we were never short of decent wine.
