From Barry McGrath, the cuplprit:
"This is all that's left after you cut the rust out of a mini. The car has been shortened by about a metre. The front floor pan is the worst traditionally, and was the bit for the chop. With an overlap the two halves were inserted into each other and then continuously seam welded top and bottom. This gives a double skinned floor pan, which adds significantly to the structural rigidity of the vehicle. An interesting thing to note is that the sills are no longer structural once the doors have been welded up. The standard mini sill can be cut into sections big enough to provide two sills for the car and more importantly there's about a foot left over for repairs if needed."
