This year we broke with tradition and went to Wales instead of the Lakes, which upset my friends in Yorkshire to the point that they all refused to come... I guess they've all been spoilt by having the Lakes and the Dales so close! We stayed in the world's best campsite, Cwmnanthir near Banwen. Friendly, great facilities (ok, no shower, but let's face it, nobody actually WANTS a shower when camping, do they? Do they?), meat for sale, lots of lovely ducks, and, best of all, campfires are positively encouraged! Friday night was very cold (about -4°C, I think), but we failed to make a decent fire. The next night, despite the drizzle, we managed to get such a great fire going that even totally squelchy rotten logs were burning enthusiastically, and not a drop of petrol or meths was used. As for activities other than drinking eating and burning things, we did manage a walk on Saturday, though it wasn't very far. What's more, due to the campfire and lots of food and beer, we didn't even go to the pub, so it worked out quite a cheap weekend!
