The rest of the trip was spent in the Western Desert, visiting various Oases on the way. The Oases aren't quite how you imagine, and are quite busy places, but are nowhere near as much hassle as the big cities, where everyone constantly badgers you to buy stuff you don't want. We visited Al Kharga Oasis and toured a pottery and carpet factory. We saw more temples (Egypt has lots of temples) and took a camel trek to our desert campsite, where we slept under the stars after dinner by a campfire. More singing followed, but our desert guides weren't as musical as our Nubian boat crews.
