About To Get On Old A9 Cycle Path At Calvine On Old A9 Cycle Path In Glen Garry View From Bridge Over River Spey At Newtonmore

Ballintuim to Aviemore.
A mere 74.47 miles in 6:39:38 (11.18 mph)
Total: 871.54 miles in 75:07:51 (11.60 mph)

Easy day today! Woke up to the lovely sound of rain on tent - forcing us to wait until it stopped before getting up and going. Shortly after it started raining for the rest of the day - weather quality inversely proportional to beauty of scenery, which gets better and better. Followed the old A9 for most of day - now a cycle path of mixed quality ranging from amazing to downright dangerous! But no cars for hours. Highlight of the day was the one horse town of Dalwhinnie, its only good point being the fact it has more cute waitresses than you can shake a stick at - two - my mum always told me not to shake sticks at waitresses... so we gave them all our loose change instead - thus lightening the load!

If we'd taken the proper route we'd be in John O'Groats by now - but we've still got 170 miles to go. Legs lovely. Shoulder not.

At Aviemnore after a very wet but easy 75 mile day. Climbed along the old A9 which is now a wide cycle path. Road peaked at 465m where it got very wet and cold. Big pizza now and a few beers - start again tomorrow.
